Crumbled Sausage & Broccoli Rabe Bar Pie

This thin, crispy bar pie is topped with crumbled Italian sausage, melted mozzarella, sautéed broccoli rabe, and sweet roasted garlic. Finished with a pinch of red pepper flakes for just the right kick.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Kontos Tavern Flatbread
  • 2 links Italian Pork Sausage sweet or hot
  • 1/2 cup Mozzarella
  • 1 bunch Broccoli Rabe
  • 5-7 cloves Garlic
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • Red Pepper Flakes to taste
  • Salt to taste

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.

Make the Broccoli Rabe

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  • Add the broccoli rabe and cook until just wilted, about 1–2 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Add the peeled garlic cloves and cook for about 2 minutes, until fragrant and lightly golden.
  • Drain the broccoli rabe and add it to the pan. Sauté for a few minutes, seasoning with salt to taste.
  • Once tender and well combined, remove from heat and set aside.

Crumbled Sausage

  • Remove the casing from the sausage.
  • In the same pan as the broccoli rabe over medium heat, break up pieces of the sausage with your hands and add to the pan.
  • With a wooden spoon, gently break up the sausage pieces.
  • Let the sausage cook until brown with a bit of a char.
  • Remove from pan and set aside.

Assemble Flatbread

  • Place a Kontos Tavern Flatbread on a baking sheet and evenly sprinkle mozzarella over the surface.
  • Bake in the oven until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly, about 2-5 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven and top with crumbled sausage, sautéed broccoli rabe, and roasted garlic.
  • Finish with a sprinkle of red pepper flakes and salt to taste.
  • Slice and serve hot.
