Crepes, available for retail and foodservice, are lower in calories and carbohydrates compared with other breads, rolls and wraps
Paterson, N.J. – Jan. 9, 2013 – Kontos Foods, Inc. (www.kontos.com), a manufacturer and distributor of traditional Mediterranean foods, announced the launch of its authentic French-Style Traditional and Savory Crepes for both retail stores and foodservice establishments. The crepes – significantly lower in calories, fat, carbohydrates, and sodium versus other breads and wraps – can be used to create delicious, low-cal sandwiches, appetizers, meals, and desserts.
Kontos calls its crepe the “Lite, Elegant Skinny Wrap™” because it is a delicious replacement for a higher-calorie sandwich wrap, while at the same time providing the basis for elegant French-style dinners and desserts.
“Kontos Traditional and Savory Crepes are the Lite, Elegant Skinny Wrap™ that provide a great alternative to standard wraps, tortillas, bread, rolls or bagels. With less than half the carbs of a plain wrap, and one-third the carbs of a hoagie roll, our Crepes offer consumers a healthier alternative to create a delicious sandwich wrap, an impressive European-style meal, delicate hors d’oeuvres or unique desserts,” said Steve Kontos, vice president of Kontos Foods.
Mr. Kontos got the idea of bringing crepes to U.S. consumers while traveling in Europe with his family. “Eateries of all types, from small cafes to upscale restaurants, were offering warm, delicious crepes with chicken, beef, savory sauces, and grilled vegetables. For dessert, we saw mouth-watering summer fruits, Nutella and ice cream. Crepes struck me as a simple, versatile meal solution that Americans would enjoy at home.”
Kontos offers crepes, refrigerated or frozen:

With Kontos crepes, retail stores and restaurants can offer their customers a ‘Lite, Elegant Skinny Wrap™’ that can play host to a variety of delicious foods that will help keep them in their skinny jeans,” said Warren Stoll, Kontos Foods’ marketing director.
