Kontos Foods Donates $20,000 in Flatbread to Community FoodBank of N.J.

Baked in brand-new ovens, the donation was part of a successful test run of Kontos Foods’ new bread-making plant in Paterson, NJ

Paterson, New Jersey – Aug. 11, 2016 – Kontos Foods, Inc., a U.S.- based manufacturer and distributor of traditional artisan breads and Mediterranean specialty foods, today announced that the company has donated nearly $20,000 worth of Kontos White Pocket-Less Pita® bread to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, an organization dedicated to fighting hunger and poverty in the state.

“This donation has the potential to help thousands of food-insecure families in New Jersey, providing a nutritious base for breakfasts, lunches or dinners,” said Steve Kontos, Vice President of Kontos Foods. “The Community FoodBank plays a crucial role in coordinating the provision of food, help and hope to our neighbors in need. We are proud to be able to help them and their partner charities as they seek to fill the emptiness caused by hunger in our community.”

The donated bread, White Pocket-Less Pita®, in the 7-inch size, is a versatile flatbread that is “Hand-Stretched for Fluffiness™.” It can be used for sandwiches, in a breadbasket, or cut into wedges and served with dips and spreads. It is trans-fat free, and is 100% vegetarian.

The bread donation, delivered to the FoodBank’s headquarters in Hillside, N.J., was part of a successful test run of Kontos Foods’ new bread-making plant, located in the Bunker Hill section of Paterson. Baked in brand-new ovens, the test run was so successful that Kontos Foods decided to put the bread to good use, by sharing it with needy members of the community. The fresh bread was delivered in not-for-retail-sale packaging.

Kontos donates regularly to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, as well as to Table to Table, a New Jersey food rescue program that collects prepared and perishable food that would otherwise be wasted, and donates it to organizations serving the hungry. Kontos is also involved in its immediate Paterson neighborhood, supporting several not-for-profit organizations that aim to alleviate the conditions of hunger and poverty in the city.
